Something Tiny

I'm looking for advice on a small folder that could pass for a key on a keychain. Something maximum two inches folded that would be sharp and preferable with a sharp cutting tip as well (not the old style folding knife rounded-tip.) I don't want a multitool, I don't need a bottle opener or anything else. Just a knife. I'm asking because I find myself in many situations without my pocketknife (you can't take them everywhere on a university, after all) and with no way to get into those annoying indestructible plastic domes all electronics come in these days, or some taped packages with key-resistant tape.

Any suggestions? I did a bit of googling but a "key knife" is apparently a trade term in woodwork and molding.

Yeah, the only thing that's worrying me about those is horsepower. Has anyone here used one of them, and can tell me if they're actually useful as knives? The key knife looks interesting, but I'm wary of that blade style as they resemble the cheap swiss army knives that I can never get to cut anything.

Try the Benchmade Benchmite II. I carry one around the university all the time and no one says anything.

I have one which is looks exactly the same. It is a slipjoint and very insecure, I would not want to use it on much besides opening a letter. Depending on local laws you can also get into trouble for carrying something with a "hidden" blade. I would recommend a small knife like the Byrd Finch.

Spyderco Jester in FRN is what I carry.

I have a knife that looks just like a key that I have carried through security several times post 9-11. (court and museum security, not airport) It's made by Swiss Tech:

Here's a pic.

This is a very useful little gizmo. It has a blade, a bottle opener and three screwdrivers built into it, but looks exactly like a key unless you are really looking hard. Nobody would ever hassle you for having one.

If you want a REALLY small slipjoint knife... consider the AG Russell Ultimate Pen Knife in plain Ti - should be a couple here and there.
However, I much prefer my SS Jester.

I have one of these too. It's pretty ingenius tech, but for me it is a little less than useful. When opened for blade, your handle is the tiny phillips screwdriver which is nearly rounded it's so small. The eye glass screwdriver broke pretty quick, even opening bottle caps requires magic. All that said, it was $8 and I've had it on my keychain since I got it. Have you looked @ a chive yet?

I was waiting for the Chive to be mentioned,
though the Jester comes to mind naturally enough, too.
They don't quite "look like a key", of course, the way that Utilitykey does but seem to have more utility :-)

I think the chive looks enough like a key fob though. Especially if you removed the clip and rotated the knife guard to keep it from opening accidentally. In fact, I'm going to take a look @ my chive as a possible key fob.

I HAVE managed to carry a Utilikey thru airport security. Flew outta Palma Airport in Mallorca, Spain on 19th August THIS year, only afew days after the AQ Scumbags were foiled in the UK planning another atrocity. Admittedly, it was on a large-ish bunch of keys in my carry-on bag but they got thru no problem. I had to empty ALL my pockets, take my watch & belt off though.
Palma is supposed to be one of the most secure airports in the world.

the swisstech utilikey is actually specificly, by Name, on either the NSA or FBI's list of prohibited things.

they got pictures of how all the objects look under X-rays. (the utilikey still looks like a utilikey:p )

guess people dont pay much attention in those training classes.

Haha, I had no idea! That's pretty funny. What is it prohibited on, just hand-carry luggage on airplanes? Do you have a reference for it somewhere?
