Something's wrong with my new Sebenza

A few people told me that purchasing a Sebenza leads to an uncontrollable urge to purchase custom made knives. But I’m totally happy with my new Seb, and feel completely satisfied with what I have. Is something wrong with my Seb? It’s not acting like people said it should?

That Sebenza of your's is just toying with you , soon it will start to demand a partner, maybe a 'Woody', or possibly a small classic,or even an umfaan. This trend will continue with each new purchase, you are doomed , you are a 'Sebenzanista'.Start saving now , you are in for the long haul.
Enjoy it .
Paul.

Mine must have the same affliction. I like customs, and wouldn't mind having a few, but I'm pretty happy where I am.

I posted at the same time as Paul. Now if you're talking about it beckoning you to buy more CRK's, well I've got that jones bad....

The Umfaan and Shadow haven't quite stopped it. Must have more....Mnadi maybe?

Well, mine worked like a charm in that direction! I ordered my first custom in under 3 weeks from the Sebanza purchase. Before then, had never paid as much as $100 for a knife. Now have gone substantially more than double that for a used Sebenza, and gone pretty high on my custom order.

And, then ordered two inexpensive knives last night. HELP!

Ouch! Bugs has it bad!!!! I'm glad I got a defective one. My wallet couldn't handle a custom purchase at this point. Although it might be able to handle a Darrel Ralph custom at the NY show this fall.

Well.... or a wood inlay Seb this fall. I'll have to ponder this one. Geez! The Seb kicked in!!! Now look what you did!!! My wife is gonna' kill me!

I am very happy to stay at the Sebenza stage. However my small plain Sebbie is getting lonely. Maybe a small classic or Umfaan next. Do customs really have more to offer? I doubt it very much.

That will be my first custom. With the works! But I got a few combustion type toys to find excuses for first!

Here’s a good question, which I hope is not inappropriate for this forum. Is something like a Darrel Ralph or TNT as well made as a large Sebenza, in terms of tolerances and lock-up? I’d love to get a custom integral some day, just because they look so sweet. But I’m afraid of being disappointed by one, looks and blade aside. Now that I’ve had a couple days with my Seb, I wonder if the shear mechanical abilities of a custom could be any better than a Seb. Do any custom makers make an integral as strong, long lasting, and light as a Sebenza? I’ve never been to a knife show yet, so I’m not quite sure what to expect at the New York show this fall.

Buzz:
Are customs better than the Seb? No. Are they just as good? Yes. I have a TNT and an Apogee and they are every bit as good as the Sebenza. Mr. Ralph and Mr. Mayo are great people to do business with. The advantage of a custom is that you can have it your way. You want a 3 1/8" blade? No problem. You want Talonite or CPM420V? No problem. You want a recurve blade? No problem. Yes they are more money but that is the price that you pay for a made to order knife. Functionally not better but you get more choices. The Talonite is nice because it doesn't rust. Mayo and Ralph both make knives that you won't be dissapointed with.

Thanks for clearing that up. After using my Sebenza, that's make me much more confident in the custom knives I have in mind.
