Sometime when you're feeling important
Sometime when your egos in bloom
Sometime when you feel
You're the best qualified in the room
Sometime when you feel
You're going
Would leave an unfillable hole
Just follow this simple instruction
And see how it humbles your soul
Take a bucket and fill it with water
Stick your hand in it up to your wrist
Pull it out and the hole that remains
Is a measure of how much you'll be missed
You may splash all you please as you enter
You may stir up the water galore
But stop and you will find in a minute
It looks quite the same as before
The moral of this quaint example
Is to do the best that you possibly can
Be good to yourself but remember
There's no indispensable man..........

Interesting analogy bro. I agree with the "humility" aspect of it. Although It's A Wonderful Life is still one of my all time favorite movies. I have to say, I like the moral of it's story line.
 
If the bucket is a analogy of D.C..... then I think we at least need to change the water.;)

And they try to explain the existence of this rarest of all compounds,
This indestructible stuff, this amazing beautiful shining metal…
And when these intellects ask who lived on this rock, and finally
Deduce that if the sole glorious purpose of Earth was
The Creation and Production of this wonderful stuff, that
It was certainly well worth the trouble…
Then ask…
If perhaps there WAS one indispensable Man--after all?
 
It is not for me to leave a space unfillable, but to leave others inspired to fill space where and when needed.
 
+1 for Will. G-d didn't didn't drop me on this pile of dirt for nothing. I just haven't figured out what it is yet! :confused:
 
Thank you all for your responses. All good here. Just been so busy lately that when the whiskey flows, well, everything does... Hopefully, I will one day figure out how to be 'indispensable'.
