A few photos from recent outings, some from exploring familiar fields and stumbling into a new-found wood, and some from a familiar creek area after a rain.
Finding the new wood started out at a familiar gate, and following a path through a stand of managed poplars I know well, into the perimeter of the hardwood around it, across fields I have zigzagged through several times, and then I found a cut through the trees I had never noticed before. It was a road that led around to another field, but also led beside another older stand of managed conifer trees. So I cut in and explored. It was just after mid day, the temp was high, and I was glad for the shade. Lots of dragonflies, butterflies, and grasshoppers in the field. Trying to get a photo of a dragonfly blowing in the breeze on the top of a five foot tall stalk of prairie grass in bright sun is not the easiest thing to do...
The managed conifer wood, some fungi within, and most of the gear for the hike.
I've got to come back here when it snows, next time I'm going to explore the field on the other side.
On the way out I found lots of these, I bet these woods are noisy in the evening!
Then an area along a creek I like to sit beside and write, and some of the fungi I found there.
