I was given this KA-BAR Mini-Dozier and I thought I'd probably throw it in the safe 'til the end of time. I decided to put it in the pocket and give it a whirl. It cut tape and perform other light tasks just fine at work. Time came for my week long Northern MN fishing trip and while I sure wanted to put a Para in my pocket I said what the heck, I am going to put the little guy through some work. I cut fishing line, blister pack, rope and it did well. We forgot a can opener so I cut the top of a can of Bush beans off and while it annihilated the cheap black coating, it took it off while leaving my fingers intact. Got home, decided to take it a part and give it a light stonewash. Came out decent enough. It's sharp and ready for rotation. For a $14 knife it does pretty well and is virtually unnoticeable in the pocket.

Cool story. I like hearing about the value and usefulness of inexpensive knives. Sometimes around here it's easy to get the impression that a knife has to cost hundreds of dollars otherwise it's a useless piece of junk. I also think that knife looks a lot better without the black coating. All in all, it looks like a decent little pocket knife. I'll bet it will serve you well.

How did you do the stonewash?

I had a couple of these for a short time before sending them off as gifts and enjoyed them. They reminded me of the old little Gerber lockbacks I had as a kid.

I have a Kabar Dozier too, and get just as much fun from carrying it as I do one of the spendy knives. And magically, the Dozier cuts stuff just about like the spendy one does too.

Take some small pebbles/stones or if you have them stonewash media like the ceramic triangles, etc.. The real deal will give you a much more pronounced wash. Cut a plastic water bottle in half, put 3-4" of the stones in there with the blade, squirt some WD40 into the works, tape up the bottle (maybe also put the bottle inside a large ziplock to forgo an oily mess) Shake the bottle for 1/2 hour more or less depending on how you want it to look. The blade will be butter knife dull of course but no problems whipping AUS8 back to shaving sharp in no time.
