So about 2 weeks ago, one of my friends(a female) asked me if she could borrow a decent knife and some sort of a flashlight since I have taken a liking to collecting all things sharp and bright. She was going to be heading down to Ecuador to do some kind of community service thing where they build houses and interact with the locals. I went last summer, man i can tell you that parts of that country are dismal at best. On my "trip" I took a few knives and 2 lights with me. For knives I took:
BM mini-griptillian(for work)
LM Wave(work again)
and I know i might not have made all that great of a choice on this one...but i took an emerson combat karambit for off the site and in town carry (for SD....kind of)
For lights, i took a surefire G2 and decided to take a brand new surefire M3 for something with a little more...bite.....anyway enough on my trip
The whole time i was down there, I never drew any knife for self defence, but my friend on the other hand, is one very very lucky girl. Two nights before she was schedualed to leave, she dropped by my place. As we looked at everything i had(close to 70 something knives, (not counting safe queens) she picks up the karambit, and goes "hey this one fits in my hand" and I just kind of chuckled, but thought to myself, she has a point, it is comfy in her hand.....and then thought...."this is a little girl, who has no martial arts training at all, what could she do ALOT of damage with if she needed to?" first thing that comes to mind is the knife she is currently slashing back and forth at the air with. so i let her borrow that, and the G2 and gave her a whole bunch of betteries to take down(it eats them....FAST)...well boy was i glad to hear she made it safe home. The day after her return(yesterday) i stopped by to see her, and she goes "your knife might have saved my life" long story short, they were in some small village and it was her and another girl walking in a street. A crowd of young looking men(i use the term loosley) approached them and started making rude remarks and made a move twords her friend, well oh boy did he have a suprise when this little american girl whips out what might as well be a raptors talon and starts going after him with it.. pretty funny picture as shes standing there acting it out and her mother is gasping...im glad shes alright, but be aware if you travel to some south american countries, they have very very strict knife laws, i had mine rolled up in boxers inside my checked luggage

good to hear that this dame is alright. you're right too. any knife can hurt someone, but you see a karambit and just envision what a large chunk it can take out of you. I wouldn't mess with a skirt waving one around either.
