I love finding rugged hiking area's away from the crowds and abundant with nature but this isn't always possible.

As time was getting on this morning I decided to save some gas and hike from my house. I hiked outta my town in bright sunshine...

The ground was still frozen underfoot in most places, this meant that tracks made in mud yesterday were captured in frozen detail today, unfotunately the only ones I found were of horses, dogs and other people.

Much of the surrounding land is farmland...

I think this fella might have been responsible for some of the tracks I'd seen !

We have a pair of resident Eagles and one of them was near the nest on lookout...

By now my caffeine levels were getting alarmingly low, luckily we had reached the next town so I was able to top them back up before our return home !

As I walked home it began trying to snow and the cold wind cut right through my two layers of wool......serious stuff as I was at least 2 minutes away from the nearest house !:D

I think we can all enjoy what we have on our doorsteps, we just have to lower our expectations a little and make the most of the small things !;)

I enjoy my backyard a lot. Always find new stuff, even though I have been over the woods multiple times. Usually find new things in the spring, and Fall. The winter is the best time to be there, but you don't see as much due to snow on the ground. Summer.. is just full of mosquitoes.

My backyard is not as NICE as yours Homes......

Please keep posting those photos!!!!

Close by is super convenient sometimes. I'm lucky that I have a trailhead about a mile from my house. Sometimes there will be quite a few other hikers and people on horses but getting off the main trails and further back I feel like I'm all alone and a million miles from people.

Nice country :)

Thanks buddy, England is still one of the best places ever for trail systems. I took for granted how good the OS Maps were, how you can pick hikes that take in little country pubs for a beer and a sandwich and how public trails often go right through the middle of someones farm !!!!;)
