Sometimes worth it to check the pawn shops (lets hear your stories too!)

So, on the way home after a bad day, i figured i would take a stop by a local one, see if there was anything neat. Well, sure enough, there was:

Talked em down a bit, and considering what they seem to sell for in retail, it felt like a good deal ($150). Great condition (looks new to be honest), and a cool knife overall (a plus, its my first Ti anything knife!). Just excited and had to share, and would love to see any cool finds others have...

I once scored a Mark V dive knife with an un-touched blade, still in the original grease for about 50 bucks at a thrift shop.
It has long been since traded but this is a google stock photo in case you didn't know the knife.

I found a like new Leatherman PST a few years ago in a local shop. I offered them $15 and they took it.

Damn, thats a hell of a knife to find at a thrift shop...

As far as I'm concerned, my latest find was incredible. A practically brand new Buck 119, with a leather sheath, and very nice edge, no signs of rust. It was sitting in a bucket of junk, literally, and the guy only wanted $25 for it.

I've picked up a bunch of blades over the years... a few 1219C2/USN MK2s, some bayonets, several Westerns (W49s, G/L46-8s, others).

The key is to be familiar with the prices of what you're interested in so you don't overpay because one of your grails is sitting there in front of you. I always dicker to try to get the price lowered. Pawn shops always put the highest price they can find on fleabay for the item, even on some POSes.

I saw a flawless Al Mar original Sere at a pawn shop in Albuquerque for $30! I was there on a trip. The kicker? I didn't have the 30 bucks and had to leave it there.

The pawn shops around here have unfortunately come up empty on numerous visits. I've seen a couple of ZTs at one shop (also a gun shop) but they were charging new prices for clearly used knives, so that wasn't going to work out. Otherwise, it's mostly a lot of Boker Plus, CRKT and the occasional Cold Steel at similarly optimistic prices.

On the other hand, I've found some very nice deals at shows, which has been a pleasant surprise, especially considering the abundance of absolute garbage.

Normally I stop off and find garbage rust laden china junk.

One day I found a Vic one handed Trekker for 10 bucks. It was a little pocket worn, but the tools and knife clearly never were used. They wouldn't budge, I bought it. I've used it every day since, and Victorinox just replaced it no questions asked once it developed issues.

I'd say it's the best 10 bucks I ever spent.
