Sometimes the bear gets you...

Sometimes you get each other...

And today is that day.

Got a Foxy Folly with the camphor wood in the mail today.

Bit me and stung (and stunk).

Wow that's a strong smell. Vicks Vapo-Rub on steroids.

It's also the best feeling handle I could imagine. I ordered this after I ordered one with the Rhododendrun wood (which is beautiful and functional but not the magic fit this one is). So it was well after it had sat for a while. If I had ordered this custom, it couldn't fit me any better.

Blade is wide as heck. I now have a skillet on which to make the pancakes I flip with my pen knife.

I wouldn't have asked specifically for something exactly like this in a million years, but it's my soulmate!

REPLY . It sounds like you have the perfect knife ! I wonder if the camphor preserves the handle ?
 
The "bear" was waiting for me at the Post Office yesterday and it puts my earlier bear to shame.

Haven't cut with it yet or even sharpened it; the handle just finished its mineral oil bath and needs to be sealed, but man, this thing looks and feels nice. I'm sold on neem.

When it gets etched I'll do a side-by-side comparison with the Faux Folly. It will be interesting to compare the weight, shape, fit and finish and hardened zone between the Faux Folly (one of the first) and this one here. (One of the last.)
