Sometimes you shouldn't give up so easily

I got a Vic Super Tinker a couple weeks ago and decided I'd give it a shot on my keychain. After less than a day of carry I decided it was too thick and not what I wanted on my keys. I knew that was a good chance going in but needed to try it to be sure. I thought about it for loose pocket carry but again it was too thick for my preference there, particularly when carrying anything else in the same pocket. So then I decided to put it up for trade but didn't get any nibbles. Destined for the shelf, right? That's what I thought and it was too bad since I really like the Super Tinker's tool set. Great knife but if I can't find a way to carry it then it doesn't do much good.

Then a bit of luck turned the situation around. I was looking through my desk for some papers and came across a small sheath that I originally got with a 4Sevens flashlight a few years back. The sheath was not a good fit for the light and so it sat. I'd all but forgotten I had it. Once I took it out of my desk I thought hey, maybe that'll work with the Super Tinker.

Yup, it does. Turns out to be a perfect fit.

So now I've got a solid way to carry the knife and stand reminded of the lesson that things aren't always going to work out the first time around and it's worth a little more patience to find a better solution.

Good story Nate.

Re. pocket carrying the Super Tinker: what happens is that it feels too big and lumpy after carrying 58mm SAKs or 1-2 layers SAKs. But if you stick with it for a few days, I bet you'll find it is fine. That's how it worked for me.

Sometimes, I get really brave and pocket carry the Explorer, but today it is in a pouch. It's the weekend, so I throw corporate fashion out the door.

Yeah, I'm used to an alox Cadet or maybe the Gardner, both of which are fairly slim, so the Super Tinker does feel chunky by comparison but in actuality it isn't really too bad for all that it carries. That said, I like to keep all of my loose pocket contents as slim as possible. I dislike having bulk that I can feel in them. The knife is so unobtrusive on the belt that I hardly know it's there.

The leather zermatt (i think that's what they are called) pouches are also very nice. I have one for my climber

I saw those online and they do look nice. Snaps are much better than velcro. But I'm a bit leery of getting one without being able to scope it first hand. Just never now how it feels from a picture.
