I'm interested in getting into throwing, but I haven't been able to find anyone in my area to suggest a way to get started, other than one genius who told me not to get started with a real blade. (This one I knew already!) Can anyone suggest how I might go about finding the practice equipment and some support for a newbie?

Thanks in advance for your replies...

You do not need a sharp blade to learn how to throw, but you do need a good knife. Check out www.commonlogic.com/knife/index/htm or www.brantonknives.com to get you started.
You can also check out www.americantomahawk.com if you are interested in tomahawks. Let me know if I can help.

Don't forget the articles and other resources at http://www.sonic.net/~quine/thrower.html, the first throwing page on the web. When that person told you not to start with a real blade what he meant was that a "real throwing knife" (not practice equipment) is just not quite the same thing as a "real knife". If you read a little bit about the subject (see the article on choosing a knife linked to the page above) you'll come to appreciate the difference.
