September has been a big month for my Son. He turned 21 yesterday. Next Friday he has his final senior project to finish his bachelor's degree work on computer game programming. Today he called me to tell me he got offered a full time job as soon as he gets done school (they are on a year around schedule, so he "graduates" as soon as his senior project is done).

It is with a company that does something with "3D worlds" for other companies whatever that means! He started interning with them and the last couple months has been doing a little part time work for them. The pay is unfortunately low, but for a 21 year old with no real obligations its doable as long as he can get a couple of roommates to split the rent with. He can work remotely, so if things are tight he can always move home but he doesn't want to (good for him). He really likes the work and the people in the company, and we had even talked about an unpaid internship to build his resume but now he actually got a "real" job in his chosen profession.

For those that don't know, he does have Asperberger's and for years we worried he'd never finish highschool. One doctor told me years ago that he'd always have to live at home. So F--- you you know it all doctor! Once he found his interest he never looked back.

I never saw the reason to leave home. I'm 21 and I'd never leave my home...I built the damn thing, why would I leave it. But kutos to your son for taking on responsibilities and getting things done. We need more people like him who work hard and accomplish goals and not just rely on schooling to get them through life.

he sounds like a smart kid since hes into 3D programming or the such. I on the other hand, get paid probably the same or less than he dose and I work trades :)

Congrats to your boy, Shann!

Tell him to kick life's butt!

Congrats. He's lucky that he's getting out of college and getting the job he wants. A lot of people don't have that chance because of the way the economy is.

There's a lot of people I know with college degrees working at grocery stores and hamburger joints.

I have a degree and I'm working a trade job.

Thanks for all the well wishes. My wife was after him about finding a new apartment. His response was "geeze mom, I've been a little busy, what with getting my senior project ready for presentation, getting a full time job, turning 21, all in the same week." Even she had to back off a little and say yep, been a great, busy week.

Congratulations to you, your wife and your son.

You've given him the bedrock of love and support which has enabled him to get this far, he must be as proud of you both, as you are of him.

Good for your son! My 23 yr old son finally got a job in the field he majored in-Architectural Engineering. He worked 1 1/2 yrs in construction after graduating. I was kinda bummed after paying for a degree he was unable to use. He's on a roll now!--KV

Congratulations. I bet that construction experience will help him in the long run. He has some practical experience in how things actually get done on the ground as well as his technical expertise.

Yeah! Most architects I've dealt with are good at drawing stuff that's impossible to build. I told him He's a double threat.--Design/build!--KV
