Damn it ! So, over a month ago I had a Bead blas cabinet from Harbor Frieght on order. I find out that it's not in so it goes on back order. From approximately July 26 through August 15 (when they were supposed to get them from the manufacturer). Itcwas supposed to be shipped on the 15 of QAugust. Then I call them on the 15th and they tell me "Oh no, that won't be in until the 30th".....WHAT THE F#*K ! So, okay I have like a dozen knives that I planned on bead blasting and coating. Now I have to wait even longer before the damn thing arrives until I can do so. Which of course holds up the revenue from those knives which holds up my ability to purchase more knifemaking supplies and equipment. Harbor Frieght apologized and offer me a fre gift (ya know it will be like a wrench set or screw driver set or some such thing, made cheaply). Bsaically , I'm just real frustrated.....ARGH !.....RDT

Yeah, if I were you I'd just find a gunsmith or someone with a BB cabinet and get the knives done that way. It will cost you a few bucks, but at leat you won't be sitting on those knives any longer. That's a crappy situation. Good luck.

Yep...I've been goin thru the same thing over some digital calipers they had on sale a month ago.
I guess the manufacturer didn't expect the booming popularity HF has garnered would have put them this far behind.

Good luck with your BB cabinet.

All the best,
Mike U.

Still waiting for the dust collection unit that is supposed to be here last week. It is so nice to know I am not the only one picked out for this fine customer service. Terry

Thanks for the sentiment guys. Hey Peter, you got lucky I guess. You got em' just at the right time. I've heard this about them before. That they don't kep enough in stock except for smaller things, maybe it's a space issue or something. I got the $69. one BTW. the grey bench top one. I don't plan on blasting much, as I'm a satin finish kinda guy, but these I wantd to try it out on. I'm doing a bunch of skeletonized models and thought that blasting them and coating them would be a nice touch....oh well. I think I have to call a local Buffinf/Polishing shop. No Gunmakers or knifemakers around here, that I know of. Except one but I've never seen his work bead blastd before, mostlu high end stuff, very shiny and satiny. If I don't get if by the first week in Sept. then I'm gonna blow my stack. In the meantime, those who these knives are going to are on a longer wait ....ARGH !....RDT

Perhaps a path to salvation: I needed to do some beadblast on a couple of custom Browning HPs that I had built. After looking all over town, I found an aircraft parts salvage yard that had a beadblast cabinet that I could rent time on. For a whopping $5 I can drop by on any Friday after 3PM and use the cabinet until close. I don't have to mess with buying supplies or maintainence. All I have to do is show off my work and talk with the guys while they drink a few after work brews. Check around in your area. A lot of different companies use beadblasting and you will most likely find someone to get you through the lagtime that HF has created for you.
Best regards.

Most machine shops have a bead blast cabinet.

I saw on the web a bead blast cabinet made outa a file cabinet and one outta big rubbermaid container.

WOW !, that' cool , renting a bead blast cabinet at their shopfor just $5. !!!! I wish. I've tried to get into certain local machine shops in the past, they suck around here. They aren't interested in any small jobs and dudes unknown to them walking in off the street. The only cool folks I found were one shop in Manhattan that were pretty nice, they are very small but very skilled and have a lot of great equipment (no BB cabinets though). They might let me use some of their stuff. Also a local Iron works that will make simple cuts in barss of stel for me for nothing or next to nothing. Tough stuff like 2" X 1/4" X whatever lenth. That reminds me, I have some talonite I want them to cut because that stuff is a total bitch to work. Anyway, thanks all for the kind words and helpful hints. Take care.....RDT
