Here's one I just finished up. The blade on this one is pretty much the same as Brutis except 2" shorter. Its also W-2 and 7 1/2", I used a piece of iron from an old railroad bridge to make the half guard and the rest of the fittings are anchor chain wrought iron. The handle is ebony.
The pattern on the front of the blade is a reflection, looks just like the corrigated fiber glass up above....

SWEET. what kind of grind did you do on this one? i dont see a transition from the ricasso to the blade. What are you quencing in to get that nice of a transition line (hamon, temper line)? how much carbon is in W2?

Terry, This is the same grind I've been doing close to 3 years now. Its more of a modified convex and I've also heard it called an apple seed grind. I'm doing a clay coating on the blade and then quenching the whole blade point first into Quenchtex B which is a very fast quench. The carbon content in the W-2 is around 1%.

Ray, that certainly is a beauty! Your hamon lines really accent your work, too. How was that W2 to pound on, pretty tough? Not that it would have made a difference, you would still have pounded out just as fine a piece, fella. Ray would just have hit it HARDER!

John, actually when I first got the W-2 I thought it would be tuffer to forge compaired to the W-1 but I couldn't tell any difference in the way it moved. I was thinking the .20% vanadiom would make it tuffer but it being such a small amount it didn't seem to matter.
