Sons Bug Out Bag and its Knives

Sounds like these BOB's are getting pretty heavy.
Since he has the BK9, I would go for a lighter weight knife for the belt and not get the BK2. The BK9 will do just about anything a machete and hatchet can do.

E-tool's are pretty heavy also.

A good multitool is probably needed. I have a SOG Powelock that is great.
 
I'd get the Cold Steel spetznaz shovel. They can be had for around $20.

Sounds like he has too many knives. I would get a small hatchet instead. I highly recommend Gransfors Bruks' Small Forest Axe or Wildlife Hatchet.

SOG Powerlock or LM Core or Wave are excellent MT choices.

e-tools have to weigh over 2lbs.... No way I would hump one of those around just so I can have a hole to poop in. If you are really concerned about it, I would just get a metal trowel to dig holes.

Bahco lapland is a good folding saw, but I don't own one.
 
Bobby, Glock, Cold Steel, and even Gerber making entrenching tools. There is a video on this site about the chinese etool which is INSANE. Talk about versatility, the video is also on youtube. I don't think you need an entrenching tool in your bug out bag nor do you need a folding saw. It is a bug out bag or battle bag not a wilderness survival bag. A quality multi-tool, folding knife and fixed blade should be more than suffcient for all your cutting task.

You need a light, batteries, cell phone, charger, meds, first aid supplies, freeze dried foods or energy bars, liquids for hydration, a few tools ref above and of course pistol, with extra mags. Also a lighter, some rain gear and perhaps a change of clothes.

You should be close to done, easy on the etrenching tool thing and it also doubles as a weapon. If it's down to your son using his entrenching tool as a weapon, the world is coming to an end, he needs a bible not a shovel.
