My son asked what pocket knife Dad?
I like several makers over the years but i had to honestly answer “Spyderco”.
He ordered two on the Zon. I said you have to be careful of counterfeits and better to go BHQ. He ended up with a total of 5 Spyderco knives in his first go! Tenacious, Delica 4, Manix 2, Para 3 ,Para 3 Lt and put a deposit on on the PM 2 Tanto. He said he was too late to cancel Amazon order... sure.
He liked the Para 3 Lt more so sold me the G-10 Para ( later just said free) and gave his brother the choice between the Delica and the tenacious. He took the later.
looks like a chip off the old block. I collect more than i really need but i tend to gift some of my knives because it truly is better to give then receive.

As a side note. Is it possible to Spyde flick open a Delica? The one i have had for 10 years and my sons new one are real tight and impossible to open this way. Is it the back lock system knives that make it this way?
i did try loosening it up but didn’t change it.
Just wondering

I believe I've seen people spydie flick the delica, but they are usually well broken in to do that. I can spydie flick my Native Chief, but not 100% reliably.

I got that DLT Trading Delica 4 (my first Delica) two weeks ago and it flicks a lot more easily than I thought it would. Actually I ordered one for myself and a friend and they both flicked fine. They're not as snappy as a PM2, but there was no break in: they flicked out of the box. But I'm sure that there's a lot of variance between productions.

Was able to flick all these even the Delica but not even 50% reliable.

I would say mine is maybe 80-90% reliable. I can't speak honestly to my friend's, I only flicked it three/four times to see if it flicked (it failed on the first one). But that's good to know, I was thinking about getting another Delica thinking that flicking was a feature of the design, not just a bug in mine.

I’d say my experience with Delicas is similar to that of Natives. Don’t rule out the Native 5!
Other than that, I’ve found Spydercos to really differ in terms of what I think makes the best pocket knife vs what works best in real world use. Some of the models you really have to carry and use. Your opinion could completely change on a model from “holding it in hand” ergonomics vs using a blade for an extended period of time and seeing what really works for your hand.

Spyderco offers an amazing variety, but sometimes the hypothetical perfect knife doesn’t work as well as some model you “muh” on. You really never know until one puts it to use when carries it for a bit

I can usually spydieflick most delicas/enduras right out of the box. Have you cleaned the delica recently? Might be a tight pivot too.

The Delica is my favorite out of all knives this size. However, he made some solid choices.

I agree DocT. He is trying other brands and i’m trying to teach him moderation but as you know it can be hard.
Maugust ??clean?? Ok i’ll check it out

the new spyderco rockjumper looks nice, looks like its delica/para3 size with a bit wider handle, might be one to look at

heres a video showing it, near the end they show a comparison to the delica 3
