So there I was, on the internet, minding my own business and procrastinating just fine. Until I stumbled upon these knife reviews. Hadn't bought a knife for years and wasn't really looking for one now, but I ended up ordering the Cryo 2 and a Chill, both by Kershaw. I might elaborate more on these later, but in short: I liked them both. What's more important here, is that a dormant interest in knives was awoken!

What next? Well, I spent some more time on youtube, found this forum, and ordered some knives...

First to arrive was the Benchmade 940-1, thanks to forum member Neuron604 (which was a pleasure doing business with -highly recommended). It arrived two days ago and I've been carrying it ever since. I've only used it twice actually. First to dissect a cinnamon bun before devouring it at work, and second to remove a branch/small tree that was annoying my daughter when we were out gathering wild blueberries this afternoon. If that's not everyday use I don't know what is . (Still haven't put in the mandatory training for when I'm attacked by cardboard boxes and copying paper.....yet)

Anyways, I took some photos today while outside with the crappy camera on my phone. Thought I'd share.

Carbon Fiber Bling in the sun oh yeah!

This is where it's been resting in between fondling.

And here it is deployed, next to a tree, in the shade.

Had to stick it to the tree as well.

Spoils of war! Before blending with ice-cream and milk. The blueberries that is, not the knife.

First impressions:
Sweet knife! Light but tight, super balanced action, feels good in hand -slim but not tiny, yet big enough to grip with all fingers. Not sure I'd guess it's price though if I didn't know. Which may be a good thing, should the Mrs poke her nose into my toys. And that might be it's only downside as far as I've noticed: It doesn't feel like a $263.50 knife. Does it bother me? Not really. It doesn't feel as solid as the Cryo 2, but then again it's less than half it's weight, and a completely different kind of knife so I really shouldn't compare the two. My knife has no noticeable blade-play, opens smooth and has a centered blade with an evenly ground edge. Edge is sharp but not hair-splitting so.

I'll leave it at that for now.

There are more knives on the way, some from other brands and even one more from Benchmade. I'll report back as soon as they reach my door, and I have to try and take some better pictures of the 940 with my proper camera.

Thanks for looking!

The 940 was my first "decent" knife and, now probably a few hundred bought and sold later, I still have it and work it into the rotation. A great all around light duty knife... But if you stick around this forum be prepared to find all disposable income magically disappearing as little brown boxes keep showing up at your door.

Hey Bagde, glad you like the knife. I enjoyed reading the post and mostly now I'm craving a milkshake.

Neuron: Hope you got those cravings sorted out, in my experience it is almost always better to succumb. Btw, I just downed a strawberry/blueberry with vanilla ice, a very nice blend!

Back on topic: I am starting to wonder just what in the world they were thinking when they decided on the pocket clip for the 940....

I mean, it doesn't correspond with any of the lines on this otherwise beauty of a knife. It's almost as if it was designed without one, and then someone thought "hey, we forgot to make a pocket clip! But look, here is box of clips for the Griptilian, let's just throw them on and hope nobody notice".

Please don't get me wrong, I'm not angry, I just can not comprehend how this came to be. It's such a beautiful elegant slender little knife, that just begs for a slim deep carry pocket clip to integrate with the rest of the design. I can't be the first to have brought this up.

Could it be because it's still a blue-class knife? As far as I can remember, the other blue-class knives I've seen have also had the same clip as the 940 (correct me if I'm wrong, speaking from poor short-term memory here). I have another knife on the way, a black-class, and it has a deep-carry pocket clip.

I hope they didn't do it to cut production cost, that'd be just dumb. I doubt it would impact sales if affixing a deep-carry pocket clip would add another dollar or two to the price tag. And I'm only assuming here that it would be a bit more expensive to make a deep-cary clip, with emphasis on "a bit".

Well, at least it's not painted :thumb up:

I'll wait and see if I can just swap with the black-class deep carry clip when it get's here. If not, I have to look for a replacement.

That's it for now. Still loving the knife and using it as often as I can! Just earlier today, while taking lunch outside in the sun, it saved me from the embarrassment of using a disposable plastic thingy to part a bread-roll and spread butter. I even allowed a colleague of mine to use it, even though he opens it using an unnecessary amount of wrist action (if this continues he will be in need of a talking to).

You're definitely not the first person to bring this up. The aesthetic incongruousness of the included 'standard' pocket clip is the first thing I noticed when they released the 940-1. It was mentioned a few times on the official Benchmade forum, where a member posted pictures of the knife with a black split-arrow clip--which IMO looks far, far better. (Disclosure: I don't yet own a 940-1 but I've seen enough pictures and videos to know that the standard clip looks like a turd on this specific model; it "cheapens" the knife.)

I made a thread awhile back in the Benchmade sub-forum here about this issue. I think it doesn't matter to a lot of people, but the cost of affixing a clip which better complements this knife would not have been prohibitive. (Fortunately, it's not difficult to obtain a better clip directly from Benchmade--though I'm not in Norway.)
