Soon to be doing my own heat treating...

I just got a visitation from the guy I made the left handed knife for. He was returning the ambidextrous knife (so I can reset it to right handed use and give it to my mother).

While here he mentioned that the shop he works in has a heat treat oven that they don't use any more. He wanted to know if I was interested. Of course I am, and I told him so. I asked what he wanted for it. Nothing, he answered. He just wanted to give it to someone that had a use for it.

Well, there goes my last excuse for not doing my own heat treatment. Oh wait, I still have a wife that worries I'll burn the house down. :)

Anyway, I'll post pictures once I have it and then the fun begins.

Now that's nice :)
Also new skills to develop.
Personaly I am not drawn towards doing my own HT since I want to focus on other aspects at the moment.
Looking forewards to seeing your findings

Go to HF or a similar store and get a rolling shop cart. Put the oven on that. You can roll it out to do HT and then roll it into a corner when not in use.

Good idea. First things first, though... I need to clear a space for the cart and oven to sit when not in use. I'm thinking I'll get rid of my lawn mower. I use a push mower these days anyway, so the gas powered mower is just taking up space needlessly.

Nice score... Fitting home for it to. Good for you.

I had to, and will continue to have to put any forge I have on a cart for the same reason. Even with a fire suit, SCBA and a 50# fire extinguisher on hand in the house....

But my wife trying to make cookies... that's when the house is gonna go....
