I scored a set of Sebenzas today. A large and a small. Both Classic MMs and both numbered 18-50 . As far as I can see they are unused but show some snail trails from I assume rubbing on the Allen wrench taped at the top of the boxes. Both ar BG42 blades too. No cleaning clothes and the large is missing a second “caution” paperwork. So I may ask is what exactly have I found? I was happy to have scored them as regular Sebenzas but quick research says they’re probably really rare. Also if anyone knows there values with some certainty, please PM me with that info.

It appears you have acquired a pair of first production Classics, hence the numbers. I believe those were the first 50 made before they went into regular production.
Yes, they are rare. Not many out there to be had, I suspect they’re in collections locked away.
They did not come with cloths back then, they were wrapped in thin paper with the BD card and Allen wrench.
You’d have no problem getting your money back plus some if you decide to move them. People are willing to pay stupid money for a numbered CRK.
Personally, like you, I’ve got plenty of users. If they were mine, they’d never be used.

The fact that you have the matching numbered set makes them even more unique.
I would not use them nor would I split them up.
I am sure they are worth substantial money, but have stopped even guessing crazy Sebenza pricing

I found them in a gun store this weekend. I was happy to have found them as I believed at the time they were simply older Sebenzas. I bought the small one intending to make it a user. After some conversation, I decided to also buy the large. Almost split the set without knowing what I was doing. When I got home and the excitement was smoothing out, I started to look at them closer. Mostly I wanted to make sure I hadn’t just bought a couple fakes. I’ve unfortunately been bit by that before. My research lead me down a HAPPY little trail of knowledge 😊

I love reading stories like this from flea markets or gun shops. May I be so bold as to ask how much the set cost you? If you’d rather not say I can certainly understand. Congratulations!

Does anyone have any idea what sort of value range these might fall into? Or is there anywhere I can search for that information? Regular Google searches aren’t really showing me anything. Not that I really expect many current or past sales on these to have occurred.

Would it be worth reaching out to CRK tomorrow for info? I don’t know I’m just spitballing - good luck sir!

From what you said, I'd say you stole them. Ajack60 nailed what they are, a pair of the first production Classics. As to what they're worth, probably a lot. I'm no price expert, having not followed prices for a few years now. Great find.

Knife maker Scott Cook might be interested. He got his start making Sebenza's in the early days. He might even trade a Lochsa for them.

Here's my best guess:
