Soooo.....

No, but I did once back lap my reel mower with .5 micron diamond lapping compound. I was almost glad when it dulled up a bit - would have been extremely embarrassing if I'd had to get the wife's opinion about going for stitches from a reel mower injury.

lol wait mowers are supposed to be sharp? All the ones I've seen the bits that spin more resembled bludgeons than blades. ;)

That's what everyone except for knife lovers think, I guess. My father-in-law walked in the garage while I was doing it. He watched me grind it, strop it, and then cut some printer paper. He didn't say anything, he just shook his head and walked back out.

Nope. I used the fine white ceramics my Sharpmaker came with to debur the edge though.

HA! My father-in-law called me yesterday and asked if he could borrow my mower. I asked why. He has a rental property where the tenants moved out and the grass is really thick from all of the rain. I asked him if his mower wasn't running. He said "It's fine, but yours has a really sharp blade on it."

Well, no I dont. I just stop at a worn 220 belt. I guess Im moving in that direction cause I used to "file and forget". Strangely enough the last new mower manual I looked at suggested that you not sharpen blades........just buy a new one! A cinic (sic) might think that they were just out to make $.

In this age of liability, some corporate lawyer has surely told them that they'll be sued if they recommend sharpening a blade and someone gets cut while doing it.

The only time I replace a blade is if it gets bent badly.

if i had a lawn mower i would put a razor edge on it but i only need a weedwacker.
