My newest puppy that I got in July, Sophie (who will be 1 year old in 2 weeks), went to Houston with me in October. The American Lhasa Apso Club was holding their annual National Specialty, which is their big dog show of the year.
Sophie and I were entered in 3 different classes (classifications). She and I have never been in the show ring together before. I'm no dog handler. But what the heck, we tried it anyway. There were ONLY Lhasa Apsos competing, no other breeds.
In the first competition, which was a local club's regional specialty, Sophie and I didn't place in the top 4 ribbon positions, but the judge did moved us from our position in line (last, according to armband number) up the the 5th position. No ribbon, but the judge was letting Sophie and I know that she really liked us. That was cool for me!
The next class was Futurity, and all 3 litter mate females were entered. Once again, Sophie and I were moved up to 5th position. Pretty awesome considering we were up against some major breeders/handlers and their puppies. Sophie's 2 sisters were in the top 4 ribbon positions. So the litter mates took positions in the top 5. Again, awesome!
Then, at the BIG competition on the last day, Sophie kicked butt and took 3rd Place, winning a yellow ribbon! She didn't earn any points towards a championship, but that isn't important since she is being spayed next month.
Yep, Sophie beat out top breeders/handlers and their puppies for a 3rd place win. She did an outstanding job for her first week of showing. I just sort of followed her around the ring, holding onto the lead!
Here's a photo I had taken with the Judge who placed Sophie in 3rd.
Yes, Sophie is the Puppy and I am the Bitch.
