As a first time owner of a CRK Sebenza small classic I must report in. I really appreciate the extreme quality of this knife. It has an almost magical essence to it. The only downside is my sore thumb from opening it. I must restrain myself. I am looking to buy a large one. Is this the begining of a problem?

Thinkin' back to my early days with a Sebbie, I remember some tenderness occurring due to my over-eagerness with playing with my new toy.... its ok.

I found the stud too pointy so I cut it down .Easy to do, somewhere here are photos. The question is - are you doing it correctly ?? Your hand has to be forward enough on the handle so that your thumb is bent. My last joint is bent 90 degrees. As the blade swings out your thumb will then straighten to complete the movement and lock !

Ya big weenie, man up for goodness sakes....... No self respecting sebbie man would ever admit to a sore thumb! ;)

Enjoy your new acquisition amigo.

Cheers,

B-

I remember a sore thumb in the very early beginning as well. But if you keep working that thumb stud, the soreness will go away and then you will be One With Your Sebenza(tm).

:D :D :D

I bet you got a callous on your thumb. Mama said too much knifesturbation and you will go blind. But don't resist, buy a large seb and you won't regret it.

Git your finger offf the lockbar!

Bend that pocket clip out!

^ Follow this advice ;)

I've never had a sore thumb from opening a Sebenza, and found that putting pressure on the lockbar with your other fingers does indeed make it much harder to open, which leads to the sore thumb.

I am glad I posted my problem. You guys are the best. I was puting too much pressure on the lock bar. I was using my thumb the wrong way. I need to have a steeper angle with my thumb and use the nail not the thumb pad. I took the peak (very minimal) off of the thumb stud with the white stick from my Spyderco Sharpmaker. Above all I need to give my thumb a couple of days rest. The peak of the thumb stud actually hit the bone. Sore as heck.

I love my Sebenza's except for the thumb stud. I've gotten used to it but it really is a poor design.

Ahh, ya big wussies! Seriously, you will get used to it. Once the Seb and your thumb gets broken in, and make sure you aren't impeding your opening with the aforementioned tips. And if you ever have to use your knife with gloves on, you will appreciate the poor design of the thumbstud!:p
