Hi all,

I'm fairly new to knives so it's possible I've missed some suggestions through my many many uses of google, sooo..

I'm looking for a great flipper under $500 that uses a great steel, is under 6 oz, < 4" blade, and small enough to carry as my EDC. I'm not a huge fan of G-10 so titanium or carbon fiber would be bonuses.

The Spyderco Southard looks like it would be near what I want, but the blade design and brown G-10 isn't my favorite (plus, it's not in stock anywhere). In the meantime, what else would you guys recommend other than the ZT 560? (ELMAX steel issues turning me away) I would even consider going custom but I can't find the knives I've been interested in available anywhere. RJ Martin and Brad Southard designs are right up my alley. I've considered the ZT 0600 if I could find one, but it's a bit on the large side.

What about knives I could raise my budget to get?

Zero Tolerance have some really great flippers coming out soon that would fit your criteria. You should check them out.

I've been seeing them pop up for sale from Blade. Ill keep my eyes open for you, but I'd recommend reaching out to John about the next batch of Norseman. They're amazing knives

That's what popped into my mind first too.
Here's the Zero Tolerance 0801CF.

I sent him an email, hopefully this works out.. they look both unique in their own way but similar enough to what I like that it's a great fit.

The ZTs coming out do look nice, I guess I probably worry about their QC a bit more than I should. The best models I've seen coming from them were all limited production, though hopefully something like the ZT 777 (if memory serves) will be a production model.

I happen to frequent the ZT forum often and I have rarely seen someone disappointed with their customer service.
I wish I could say the same about some of my other favorite brands.

Of the few brands I've taken a lot of interest in (Spyderco, CRK, ZT/Kershaw/RAI), I've heard nothing but positive experiences...except when dealing with CR himself haha

I'm sure ZT would honor a warranty, but when it comes to things like frame locks and steel, I really want to be sure it was done right the first time. That's just me and I intend to use whatever I buy, so I'm a weird one.

I also expect perfection but I know I'm a fool for that. I have rarely needed to deal with CS, but as I grow older I have started to realize that insurance is a necessity. Buy from a quality dealer and a quality manufacturer. A few $$$ is worth knowing that you are taken care of.

Don't forget about the For Sale sub-forum. Go and obsessively browse and find your dream knife you never knew existed. Don't rush your dreams. ;)
