Well, I got home last night, turned on my computer and got a virus. Now I cant boot it up at all. I amgonna have to put the patches on hold for a bit until I sell a cfouple knives! Going to look at computers today.

apples don't get viruses...gust throwin that out there.

Actually they do. There is one out there right now that tons of people have. It is just waiting dormant till some one in China hits it with an update. Even the experts don't know what it will do (but say the exposure is huge, because everyone thinks Apples don't get viruses).

The fact that everyone thinks Apples don't get viruses makes them perfect targets. If you get an apple, get anti virus software.

BFT is correct...i was speaking in general terms. it is a risk, but from people who have owned macks, and with personal experience...it has been a common trend that Mac's have much fewer problems than PCs. Also I would like to add that I am by no means against PCs...I happen to own, use, and like both platforms.

wish I lived closer Chris - I have on occasion been able to Lazarus a "dead" computer...
(OK, usually my own after doing something stupid to it, but still...)

seriously - if you want to ship the dead one to me I can try to resurrect it before i head out your way next week.

Eric, it was crazy. I got a virus but couls still browse through safe mode. Than nothing. Windows wont boot up at all.

...........i'm screwed.......

I can try resurrecting it if you want me to -- I'm not as good as one of the computer recorvery services, but then I'd do it for free.
You still probably won't get back any of the info that was on the hard drive, but you'd at least have a computer when I was done. (I have access to disk wiping software that will make sure there is NO virus left before reloading the OS if I can't work around and resurrect it from the ashes)
Of course, if it's new enough it may still be under warranty.

My wife said it should still be under warranty but I will have to check. Mine sisnt come with a Vista disc, wish it did I would go that route. Hell, I cant even remember my username and password for windows. Im sure there is a generic admin password I could use. Ive tried everything I know but I cant even get it to start up anymore. I really just want to get the pics off of it if I could.

What is the make and model of your computer. Google it and bootable disc. You may be able to download one onto another machine, burn it to disc, and run the startup repair...

Sorry to hear of your comp problems Chris.
The hard drive on my old laptop just died on me monday & I got an iMac wednesday.
I got the Mac because of the low risk of viruses & wanted to try something new for my second comp.
My laptop got nailed once & I was able to reprogram with the disc,
but what a hassle it was for this computer illiterate geek.

So whats a good anti virus program for a Mac guys?I've got norton internet security for the laptop,is it ok for an apple?
Appreciate any info.
