Before I ask a question that has probably has been asked a million times ....I do a search.....so as to not be repetetive and boringto members, here.

So I do this this search regarding the following knives:

1. Trident TCFMO2 fixed blade knives.

2. Aircat Tripwire fixed blade knives.

My search response to this is:

"Sorry nothing found! Please try some other terms!"

Can this be true?

How can this be true!

Yes! I am an idiot! Tell me how I should have asked this search question.

Dan

Some of your terms are not specific enough (fixed, blade, knives), triggering more results than the search function can handle - or, in case of the TCFMO2, too specific. Simply searching for "tripwire" gives you plenty of results.
Also, try using the advanced search options to improve the results.

Here's the search engine FAQ if you need further information on how to use it.

By the way, you misspelled "Airkat", which is another great way of making sure that the search feature won't work. ;)

Thank you!

You said, I was "not specific", and then you said I was...."too specific".

I should have remembered that search engine software is as delicate and fragile as is the finest China bone dishware.

If my name is "Tom Jones", and I ask most search engines on the internet to give me anything on, "Thomas Jones",.... or maybe even "tom jones" .......or maybe even "Jones"....I'm dead in the water.

I will confess that my request for "aircat", should have been "airkat".

Most of these search "engines" are really ....anything but.

Between you and me, QS, there is an application out there called "GuruNet" that really (truly) is a search engine!

If I ask it to give me something on maybe... "Blasco Widgets Chrome" (for example)....they will come back with something far afield of that and suggest to me what I really might have wanted........ in the first place.

Misspelling "aircat" on BladeForums, for the intended "airkat" .......just doesn't "cut" it.

But,Quiet Storm: Blade Forums, is not about search engines, I will agree!

Thank You

Dan

I can only guess how many searches members perform here every day, but I do know that the search function puts serious strain on the server. That's why you get an error message if the server takes more than x seconds to process your request. It just ain't Google.

TCFMO2 is too specific because people apparently haven't used it when discussing that knife, or maybe this particular model hasn't even been discussed yet - time to start a new thread on that subject! :)

A good rule of thumb is to use no more than two different fairly specific keywords.
The "search titles only" option is very valuable.

The search function requires an exact match for all the words you put in your search field. If people spell it different than you do you will strike out. If they don't put in all of the words that you use in your search you will strike out. Try and pick unusual words that are unlikely to be misspelled (or is that mispelled) by you or the other posters. If you pick a word that is too common, like "knife" or "knives" you will get too many hits and can overload the search function. Simple and clever is better than trying to use brute force.

Here is a link to tips on using the search function. Read all of it:
