Decided to strip and hand smooth the handle on my cerakote SoS after realizing that it had black and tan g10 scales under the coating.

Turned out to be quite the process, lots of sanding and file work. Had to sand so much that I decided to round off the top edge and put a swedge on it as well.

Went ahead and put a mustard patina on it since it is sr101 and that will help prevent rust a little. Plus it looks cool.

Now I'm starting a sheath and then I will have an edc that doesn't frighten the common folk when I go to town...

Thats the most satisfying strip Ive seen outside of a gentleman's club, mainly due to the g10 discovery, what a bonus. That SOS definitely belongs in the Champagne Room :p

Wow, really like the black and tan scales on this one, quite a find!

It's a bit of work, but the stripping and sanding is really worth it on these.

Nice work! you got nice G10 under the C-kote- I wasn't as lucky with my project.

Well that's a nice surprise. Great work Honor, looks really good. How did you figure out the scales were black and tan g10?

Under good lighting I was able to see that the texture around the sides of the scales were smooth and with one of my other cerakoted blades you could make out the rougher canvas fibers of the micarta. Also I could see the black bands of the g10s multiple layers. With close inspection you should be able to figure out what is under the handle coatings. I decided to leave the cerakote in the handle tubes because I liked the way it looked dark rather than shiny silver plus it would have been a total bitch to clean them up.

I can see that my trail scalpel has blue and black g10 under the coating, it might be my next project.

My goodness! It looks like a completely different blade! Like one form the ganzaa and the other from the CS! Nice work!:thumbsup:

Excellent work, Sir!! I showed this to my girl (who couldn't care less about anything that excites us around here, btw) and she loves that mustard patina.

Wow thanx thats a hell of a compliment. appreciation from the misses on a knife that is a rare thing indeed. My wife loves that I always have a knife or 3 on me but thinks it silly that I have so many and that I am part of a online knife community
