I'm looking for a reliable source for anhydrous borax. I have been purchasing it from a mining supply outfit here in Montana. With the fires this year, the store has closed it's doors until next year, and I'm running low on the stuff. I had been getting it in 100lb bags, but would settle for 50lb if I can locate it. Thanks for any direction!

20 mule team borax at your local supermarket
it works fine comes in a 3 to 5 poud box $2.89

What is the difference when using Anydrous Borax vrs. 20 Mule Team. Just starting welding cable damascus. And is it possible to cook 20 Mule Team in an oven at the lowest heat setting. But would the fumes be harmful?

20 mule team borax isn't anhydrous, it has a lot of chemical water in it. To make it anhydrous, you have to melt it down, then break it up again. That seems to be a bit more trouble than Ed should have to go through for the quantities he's going for. How about welding supply places?

Pottery supply places are also supposed to be able to get Anhydrous. But is it worth the trouble?

ED i get mine from Van Waters & Rodgers out of tulsa ok they are also out of portland or they can fix you up with as many 50 lb sacks as you need,i have seemed to misplaced there number

Thanks for the source! I'll see if I can track the folks in Oregon down.
Anhydrous has much better coating and penetrating properites, you can also get away with using much less than you can with 20 mule team. For you guys who are using 20 mule team...notice how it foams up when you apply it? That's the water being flash boiled out of the stuff, and more often than not, about 2/3 of it ends up on the floor. Anhydrous melts on the billet, as if you were pouring honey over it. I just like it much better than 20 mule team. Thanks again!
