After reading the Boye book I want to try my hand at deep etching images into steel. The method described in the book involves mixing a batch of etch resist out of beeswax and asphaltum. The suggestion was to get those supplies at art supply stores. I haven't been successful locating the asphaltum at any art supply stores. When I searched online I found ONE place that sells cans of it... but the shipping charge is 2X the price of the material.

Anyone know of a place to get asphaltum? The kind I'm looking for comes in liguid form, not paint tubes.

Sheffield Knifemakers Supply. They have the ground ingredients and the recipe to mix it.

Thanks Phil. I just ordered from Daniel Smith and got free shipping. NICE.

Problem solved.
