What's your favorite source for small quantities of metals such as brass, aluminum, cold rolled steel, titanium and whatever?

Mike

www.mcmaster.com These folks have quite a selection of all kinds of metal alloys. Browse under the raw materials section. Just a suggestion- before you buy any brass, think about using bronze instead. IMHO, it has a warmer, richer color and I've found it easier to forge and finish.:)

For me...mostly local sources. I have a local nonferrous scrap dealer that has some great deals if you get to him before the other guys. Lots of stainless, aluminum, brass....and all sorts of wierd stuff. Gotta watch for radioactive stuff as well from these guys.

The best online source that I've purchased from is :http://www.onlinemetals.com/
They cater to small quantities.

Sincerely,
Rob

Thanks for the information everyone. I guess I should clarify my inquiry.

I think Rob hit it on the head. I'm looking for small quantities of odd-size metals, mostly brass or CRS barstock. A local nonferrous scrap dealer is a good bet.

Another project I have is building a jeweler's lathe based on the Popular Mechanics Handyman's Encyclopedia design. I'm searching for 3" or 4" pieces. I don't expect it to progress rapidly - that's half the fun!

OnlineMetals is a good source it appears. Getting known material is the big benefit.

Thanks again,

Mike
