First, I would like to apologize if this has been asked, before. I seem to remember seeing a table of Buck's date coding system. But, I cannot, for the life of me, remember where it was...thanks, in advance, for pointing me in the right direction.

Rob,
Here is a scan of the codes from Levines. Buck substituted the 2002 symbol with an anvil and omitted the model ##'s to mark thier centennial. Peace,

Rob,
I don't know how good I am. I am a certified Buck knut, specially them 500 series folders. Take care,

yes, I saw the pics of the scrimshaw ones you were selling. A local dealer ( Indy ) had a couple. He had one with a couple of mallards on it and I think the other one had a whole flock of geese in the air. He was asking $125...so your prices are better than his. Take care, Rob19
p.s. I have a couple of the Model 532 Millenium knives. They are real hair poppers. (Indigo and Cherry or Rosewood, I think.) I have more 110s than anything, however. Stay safe.

On the subject of dates; does anyone know when the two dots first appeared?
Reason I ask is that I have 110 with the two dots, (three line stamp), two rivets and steel spacer. Knife is about 0.55" thick. If memory serves me, I had this particular knife prior to 1977.

RMack: It said in the book Levine's Guide to Knives and Their Values, that the dots did not appear until 1978..the two dot was the first and indicated a change the tang that kept the knife from being converted to a gravity knife. A third dot ( later ) was for the addition of a joint bushing. That was the 5th Edition I was lookin at. take care.

Rob19,
I have Levines', and have also read that. This is why I am confused. I have had the knife since before I was married,1977.
I bought it while I was a firefighter in MA in the '70s.

greetings... the dates are approximate. If Buck ran out of blades for a model in October ,they would then use the new codes or steel or whatever change was needed. Anexample of this is in late 2001 Buck had a large order of 110 's and some ended up being made with 2002 anvil marks.:)

Rmack,
We actually added the two dots in 1974. The whole dot scheme only holds true for the 110 and 112 models. THe third dot was added in 1980 and the forth in 1981.
Hope this helps.

Thanks all.
I thought I was going senile! I know it was the same knife I bought in the '70s, I had hand filed serrations into the blade with a chainsaw file when it was new. (Back then it was about the only way to get a quality knife with a serrated blade to cut seat belts, battery cables and the like.)I had thought about having the blade replaced, but decided against it. Too much of an old friend, think I will let it retire to my desk drawer.

Rmack,
Glad we could help. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask!
Take care,

RMack:with that much sentiment, you might consider framing that bad boy in a glass case. take care

I thought I saw it on the Buck website, but I can't find it there anymore. Would be handy to have it there again. Course, maybe I'm not looking hard enough!
