I'm looking for plain alumina ceramic rods like the ones you'd get in your basic crock stick sharpening setup. 8" or longer, must be round.

The problem is I can't seem to find them individually, with grits listed. Occasionally they will just classify them as "fine" "med" etc, witch doesn’t tell me much. I know about the ones on leevally: http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=2&p=46363&cat=1,43072,43079 but if there really 280 grit like they say, that's way too coarse. Anybody know of a source?

I found some very good quality round, ceramic sharpening rods at a knife show about 4 years ago. The Vendor I got them from was Texas Knifemaker Supply. They are mainly a supplier of top quality knife making supplies but they also have a lot of great quality tools and other items of interest.

Also another very interesting vendor for abrasive tools is another company out of Texas called "STICKS & STONES LTD". You should be able to find everything you need through either one of those companies. Good Luck :)

You might try calling Colorado Ceramic Abrasives company. They make (or at least wholesale) ceramic rod sharpening systems under that name and also Idahone. I think that the number is: 303-838-4635. They are in Conifer in the mountains west of Denver.

Cecil Clark Knife Company, a local shop here, sells a pack of two 10" crock sticks (900 grit), a wooden guard, and a wooden angled base, for $5. I don't have the number on hand, but do a web saerch and you'll find them.
