That's a pretty good price, there are less offered on the net by a couple bucks but by the time you add shipping you are out of the ballpark of the local dealer cost.

$45 is a good price and as said above, shipping adds a good bit when ordering.

I have precision ground 1095 3/16'' x 2-1/2''x 18''. Check the (Supplies for sale forum).

yeah......that 3 inch deal makes the bar even more pricey. I did ok on O1 with a local seller when I first started off, but the only PG I buy now is 1018 for guards which is MUCH cheaper. I initally switched to 1075 and 5160 and now have switched again to Don Hanson's Magic W2 for blade steel. O1 can be a bit weird to work with.

Did you try online metals? I have been mangleing a fair amount of O1 in my attempts at a folder...Not sure what the 3inch is going for though.

I usually get mine from KBC Tool when it's on sale. They advertise it as being made in the USA or England, but it's always been Starrett precision ground O1 when it arrives.

On page 782 of their current catalog they list 3/16" x 3" x18" Starrett O1 for $24.15. That doesn't include shipping, but they have always been reasonable.

Thanks for all your help guys. I went with my local supplier to eliminate the shipping. Thanks again.
