Vet:
That knife is $175.00 retail. I don't believe that there any available yet. It is the most expensive retail price on a knife yet for CRKT.

I believe the Avenger is correct, they aren't available yet. They do retail for $174. When they are available I will probably get about $100 for them.

My disstributor doesn't have any Spikes, but it seems as though I saw some in a Smokey Mountain Knifeworks catalog. You may try them.

Their website is:

You may want to give them a call.

Vet95Lt1 -- I hadn't heard of this new model, so had to check it out. It is the M16-14F -- for fiber.

One thing I'd suggest is that you try to handle one before you buy one. The reason is that the M16-14 is one very well balanced knife, with the aluminum handles. The balance point is just about exactly under the flipper when open. I think that going with carbon fiber is going to move the balance point substantially forward. It will be very blade heavy. Hopefully, that will work just great for those who get it. I just know that it would be a terrific change for someone used to the original model.

Good luck with it,

nah roguespear, sorry thats the small version , the M16-00 w/a about 3" blade, the large 1 i'm looking for is about 4" called the M16-14F- thanks though.......i guess i'll just wait a while, i would pay $100 or so, but $175, no way not me..........too many other neat knives for that kinda $$ - IMHO,,,,

Where did you find out about the new 4" carbon fiber model?

The crkt website doesn't show it. Here is link to the 2001 crkt knives:

http://www.crkt.com/whatsnew.html

There is no mention of the 4" carbon fiber model.

I have the aluminum 4". I hate the thumb studs but I love the rest of it.

hey rogue spear, heard about it in 1 of the knife mags - dont know which 1 - but 1 guy had 1 in the gen'l discussion part of the forum, a short thread about it - have a small 1 but $177 is too rich for me, for a CRKT anyway LOL,,i'll wait a week or 2,,,,,check it out - its the M16-14F......

I have a knife very similar to that model, the M16-11F. One word of advice though. Make sure you have a good sharpener if you get a carbon fibre M16. Mine was pretty dull when it arrived. I don't think CRKT has quite gotten used to sharpening the Acuto 440 steel.

Other than the initial dullness, the M16-11F is a very nice knife. The lockup is very solid, a lot like a Spyderco Military. It also packs a lot of blade into a tiny handle. My only worry is the carbon fibre. There is noticeable flex in the handle of my small M16. I hope they use much thicker carbon fibre on the larger model.

I've heard than the standard combo edge M16s have a chisel grind. This is not so on my carbon fibre. Mine has a hollow grind, with a convex sharpened edge.

I would go with the M16-14M or M16-14LE. They are the large blade with aluminum handle that you should be able to purchase for under $60US. I have two and they are superb! I don't see how CRKT can jump to $175US list for the large carbon fiber. Dick

hey thanks for the info - my M16-00 (well my wifes LOL) came pretty darned sharp, and is easy to sharpen - and i see the point about the handle flex after looking at her knife - and $175 is high IMHO - but she wants 1 to match the little 1 - she loves it - so what can i say but "ok babe" - i figure by july or aug they should be more readily available cheaper - $100 i can handle,,,,,,,,,,personally i want 1 of the kasper/crawford fighters, they are pretty daRNED IMPRESSIVE FOR THE $$ imho - anyway thanks again for info.....

when available? dont know, but soon. why so high? i dont know, the CF handles i guess, but most makers charge, what, $20 or $30 extra for them?? IMHO will be interesting to see how they sell........

Keep in mind that there has been a steel change, in addition to the carbon fibre. I don't know how much Acuto440 costs, but it must be a bit more than AUS8.
