I am looking for an economical source that can make a custom logo stamp for my sheaths. I have been stamping with standard steel machinist letter/number stamps but would like to graduate up to a logo that matches my blade logo (a chemical etch). My logo is only about an inch and a half max in diameter.
I have tracked down a few places so far.
Tandy offers any size in mild steel for $79.99. Harper Manufacturing is supposedly the best (custom heat treated tool steel), but has very high prices (I am told) of around $200-300. Evers Stamps was recommended, also has custom heat treated tool steel stamps, but I haven't faxed in for a quote yet. I am also told that there are places that make plastic ones for a $75.
I want to go steel, just because that seems more cost effective, but am somewhat surprised at the prices. I am only a hobby maker, at this time.
Any suggestions? Has anyone worked with any of these companies? What were your thoughts on their product and price? Any other places you would recommend?
Alternatively, does anyone have any alternative methods of marking your sheathwork. I thought about designing a logo that I could perhaps make a stamp for myself, but would really like to have my name in the logo, and I am not very good at carving letters.
Thanks,
Brome
