Source for Drop Point 112 Rangers?

In another thread, Sitflyer posted a wonderful picture of a Buck 112 frame rebladed with a 442 blade. I'm reposting a link to it here.

Couple of questions about knives like this....

1) Are there reputable Buck customizers who regularly produce such knives?

2) What is the short list of workable donor knives for the blades? I'm guessing that both the discontinued 442 and (a bit uglier) current 482 are likely candidates?

I gotta get me a knife like this. Buck really should put that into production. Restamp the blades as 112D and call it the Drop-point Ranger.

This 112 caught my eye as well. The rivets look a bit smaller than I'm used to seeing on a 112.

That's because the wood had chips... Pretty Macassar ebony , so I saved it... Then put a 442 blade in it to replaceth the stubby blade, I didn't think I was doing anything disreputable ;):D...BTW...I have busted up four more 442's and have the blades sitting on my bench back home in N.C. ;)

I should have written in my previous post that I think this 112 / 442 is stellar ... right down to the small rivets. I love the small rivet look on old 110s.

I have a handmade 1095 DP 112 and carbon Damascus DP by Grand at SNR coming in my mail (should be today or very soon) I will post pictures of. They are a little more costly but Grand does great work. So does sitflyer :)

Those rivets *look* smaller because the heads are ground off. Get a load of the rocker pin, for example.
Looks nice, though. I like.

Very nice sit!! I agree with the prior comments as well. Have any of you tried this with a 110? If so what knife did the donor blade come from? Thanks

Thanks for the link pinnah and I sure didn't intend to hijack your thread! I gotta say I really like the ones shown by Pd with the 426 blade as well, although from the pics I can't tell if there is much difference in blade shape. 486 even has a thumb stud. May have to attempt this.

Here is a picture I took a while back as a question if the three blades are the same size and interchangeable.

thanx for that pic edbeau...bottom knife is a 482???...looks like that one should "drop"right in as well...:)
would just need to get a good look at the lockbar recess in the blade...

I really like the DP 112 also. No one has addressed what years a 112 would be good candidates to use the 482 blade. I thought I read somewhere that it had to be a newer 112 to be compatable with the 482 blade. What is the oldes 112 would be compatable? Thanks for the great pics.

I beleive a 2 dot or later will be fine... I have a two dot that is back home and in a few weeks I will be back there and start working on it...It needs a blade and years of rough use removed. It will get a 442 blade. I have put a modern tang Damascus blade on a earlier model... It required some fitting work to the lockbar but is doable...

Here's another source, Grand at Snake River Knives made these. I'm thinking the Tiger Stripe Damascus would look nice on an Ironwood Barehead. The steel blade is 1095.

Harold, I just finished a re-furb/re-blade (442 blade) of a two dot 112... The blade dropped right in with the stock lockbar. Minor sanding was required to get the lockbar flush while open. When closed the lockbar is slightly shy up front and slightly proud in the rear. With all edges broken/smoothed it is quite comfy in hand and rock solid lockup.
