Source for inexpensive Japanese kitched knives?

I'm looking for a source for inexpensive Japanese style cooking knives. I've checked the Asian markets in town and they only care cheap dollar stor type stuff. No chisle grind knives at all. I would like carbon steel and cost is very important. i just want to try a few before I buy a nice one. Any one know where to pick a few up.

Kershaw's Wasabi series are reasonably priced - topping out at about $25.00. They use the one-sided grind. They are not however, strictly carbon steel.
 
Well, dude, just a word of advice...if you buy a 10$ knife, you won't be getting a 25$ one, unless you happen to find a ridiculous sale or something. So, save a bit more money...it'll be worth it.
 
Email me. I may have some of these left. I have some carbon steel debas, usubas and utility knives in the $20-30 area. I'm not there at the moment and won't be back until this evening but I'm sure I have some things.

And, yes, there is a big difference between a $20 knife and a $200 knife. Using one may not be indicative of your like or dislike of a better one.
 
I don't know where you can buy good japanese knives for $10, but sometimes I find them for under $5.00. The solution is to frequently comb charity thrift stores and antique flea markets. I often find good knives for $1.00-$3.00 at Salvation Army, Goodwill, ARC or similar thrift stores. They almost always need sharpening and frequently need the handles soaked in mineral oil to undue dishwasher damage. I usually don't find the single side grind, but I sometimes see carbon steel or very good stainless. Knives cost a little more in an antique flea market, but the more recent ones usually cost $5.00 or less. I always look for used knives when I travel to a new city.
