Where could I find legal, documented ivory? I'd love to work with some, but I just don't know where I could find any.

I know it will probably cost a fortune, but I would love to get some, no matter the cost. Thanks in advance!

I cant seem to find his email adress but do a search for David Warther Museum or call him at days: 330-852-3455 or evenings: 330-343-1868 He is great to work with and gives documentation for each purchase.

Thanks for those links! I'm sure I can find what I need between those sites.

BTW, how can I work the ivory? What can I use to remove some of the material to round off the edges for handles. How should I polish the ivory up?

What was told to me when i asked the same uestion of James Rodebaugh ABS Journyman Smith. Was to work it slowly with med to fine grit sand paper wet sand to keep dust down. Also where a resperator ivory dust both new leagal and fossilized are not recomended to breath. in my experiance ivery work quikly and easily. So take your time. Ivory is a quik way to be out a expensive pair of handle materials and back to the drawing bord

Marshall, welcome to BFC.:D

Steven, like Marshall said. Use new belts if grinding, work slow, don't overheat. You can round over the edges by getting shop rolls of abrasive, tear off a piece, and use it on the edges like shoe shining. Or use a leather backing for your sandpaper, and sand the corners at a 45degree angle, till you get the results you want. Work by hand, using progressively finer grits, to about 600-1000 grit finish, then buff.
I use a buffer to finish, white compound, very light touch.
