I'm in the process of making some custom scales for a Benchmade Ares and while I have it all apart, I'd like to replace the plastic washers with phosphor bronze versions. The problem is that I can't find a source for anything close to the size I need. I've check McMaster-Carr which is my usual hardware place and KnifeKits. Any other sources I should be looking at?

Thickness: 0.025"
Inner diameter: 0.225"
Outer diameter: 0.600"

Thanks,
Ted

I did a quick search for this at smallparts.com and they do have some stuff close in size, maybe not in thickness. Perhaps its something you can live with. I searched on that site for "phosphor" to narrow it down.

Did a search for phosphor bronze flat washers and found some by large mfg. None the size you are looking for. It's possible that they were special made for the knife company as that is done for many companies with special needs. Good luck

I accidentally bent/creased the heck out of 2 of the 3 phos. bronze washers from my Tenacious when I took the blade out to clean and lube the works. They're SO thin and delicate! I wonder if Spyderco would mail out a couple on an "as needed" basis. While inexpensive themselves, ordering the washers from knife kit suppliers isn't financially sound, as the shipping, tax, duty and exchange rate (for Canadians) puts the cost for just a few of them almost near the price of the Tenacious itself. Might as well buy a new knife. So, anyone have any knowledge of Spyderco's policies, past practises, etc. regarding selling/sending minor parts like these for home repair? I can probably guess their stance. I mean, why would they want to help out the very people who comprise the bulk of their business?

Thanks for the tips everyone - but nobody seems to have anything close to the size I need. I found a link on the benchmade site that says they may be able to swap the washers out - it depends on the model so I'm going to email them.

I recently inquired as to how I could obtain a pair of washers for my (now disco'd) Mini Manix. Within a day I received a reply saying that as I soon as I emailed them my address they would send a couple out, free of charge.
Not to sure about shipping to Canada, can't hurt to ask, though.
