Hi All,
I am trying to get handle fasteners/screws that are something like Chicago screws you would use for sheaths. Only I need them in Stainless steel. I know I could use Acorn or Corby rivets but I want something with a larger head like Chicago screws. They don't have to be as big as Chicago screws but that style. Take a look at the link I included. Here is an example of what I mean. The screws on this Snody are very nicely done. They are small enough to fit just about anywhere on the knife handle and are nicely fit with the proper counter sink. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank sos much.....RDT

Greeting's i checked out the Picture and it Look's like the Scale's are simply Screwed on to Answer where to buy fastener's like this check Texas Knife Supply or Shefield Supply You might want to look at the Pivot pin section they both carry them the one in the Picture look's like a 1/8 Barrel Pivot pin that uses 2-56 screw's !! I Hope this Help's :) :D :D

Thanks guys, I thought about using the pivot pins too. Wasn't sure how they'd work out though. I'll give em' a try. Take care.....RDT:D

Yup !, all the suppliers. They all have Loveless, blind, acorn, corby style rivets. Those all work fine ad the acorn and corby are very similar to what I want except that there is too much distance between the rest/shelf that on the shaft. Not sure if that makes sense. Anyway. Take care......RDT

On that knife, or similar, do you think Snody threads the tang and the screws go straight into it, or would it be better to do something like Greco and use a threaded insert and just drill a plain hole in the tang? I like the insert idea because if you strip it you can replace it, plus you can probably use a pivot pin assembly and just grind down what you need. Anyway, this type of joining the handles is cool because it looks good, saves steps (no epoxying) and makes the knife more versatile (replaceable/interchangeable scales). Any thoughts?

Hey Chiro,
I totally agree. A threaded insert sounds like the way. What I would like is to use Chicago sctyel screws. Like for Kydex only in stainless steel and smaller. Chicago screws are only slotted on one side, if they were slotted on both sides that would be even better. Pivot assembly might be the way to go. Or, have some company make them special for me ? Working on that right now. Take care.....RDT

RDT, what do you mean, they're only slotted on one end? Am I wrong, or could you take the aluminum tube the screw goes into in a Chicago screw couple and cut the wide end off, cut the tube to length, and use it as the tube for a Chicago screw to hold the scale on on each side? Get what I mean? I would think that would work, although even the Chicago screws available through Blade Tech are a bit big for scales unless you're really going for that burly look! I looked at Halpern Titanium and they are currently selling 2-56 x 0.090" screws for $30.00/1000. They are described as black oxide, six sided button head screws, which sounds right. How big is a 2-56x0.090", though, and could that be what Snody used in the example you reference?
