Does anybody know a good source for thin tungsten carbide flat strips? I’ve been looking around, but everything is quite pricey or in larger quantities than I need.
(This is just for a simple jig I want to make - not a file guide)
I have made several jig with ceramic glas and ceramic tile. They fork perfect for me .This one I use for tang ...... set blade in jig and with angle grinder ............. What you see on picture is not damage on tile but material from grinding disk ...
I have a source, about $24 for 1/8'' X 1/2'' X 6'' strips of C2 Micrograin carbide. If there is demand, I'm happy to arrange a purchase, but I'd need to do about 50 pieces to make it worthwhile. I can also cut them in half pretty easy, or order strips any shape or size.
I'm not sure you can find 6" long carbide strips at a decent price. If you can get by with shorter pieces, say 3 1/2" replacement blades blades for hand held electric planers are cheap on eBay.
I bought 4 strips 4" x .375" x .1" off eBay a few years ago. Not sure what kind of carbide they are but they worked fine for a file guide. Don't remember the cost, so it couldn't have been too shocking.
Might still have 2 of them, now that I think about it.
