Source for Victorinox Cadet II

Thanks. I certainly won't get one if I have to pay that much. My days of overpaying for something I want are over.

Might be able to get someone to just modify a cadet and swap the nail file for a pen blade. We have a few people on the forum who will do this for you, not sure of what it cost but it's an option. I've been kicking around doing this same thing to a cadet for about a year but funds typically end up going elsewhere. Admitably I've also been thinking for the last month or so that a cadet with that pen blade and can/bottle opener replaced with a combo tool and electricians blade would be awesome as well.

Great ideas. I'll ask around. Can you recommend anyone? I know that Syph007 does not work on 84mm anymore.

But with the mod you don't get the ribbed alox or old shield. It would be the alox they use today with the new shield.

The ribbed scales were only on early versions. They also made them with the current grid pattern.

However, since they have not been in production for a while, you will still have to look for them in for-sale sections on forums and auction sites, unless you get lucky and stumble across a brick-and-mortar store that has some new old stock still in their inventory.

Cap't, that's a very early version of the Cadet. Does it have the small clip blade rather than the pen? They also came with the checked Alox scales. Then Vic swapped the small blade for the nailfile (sometime in the 80's I think) and kept the Cadet name. Then they made a version with the pen blade and called it the Cadet II. All very confusing.

This link http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Victorinox+Cadet+II has a good writeup.

That particular Cadet II has the file, but was modified (before I got it) to have the file sharpened into a blade and works as both a blade and file. I wish I could show you a picture, but its buried away right now. Here is a shot of the tang stamp though.

Just to tempt the ones that like the ribbed Cadets here is a early one in red I had (with small blade) I got from a garage sale for free. It was completely trashed. I actually ended up trading it off and regretted it for a year or so. I thought about it all the time even though it was beat to hell. I contacted the person I traded it to and he still had it and I ended up getting it back after its long vacation.

I got it modded and added a pair of legit 84mm scissors which i'm sure you know are quite hard to find. Sorry for the crappy pictures.

I've been looking for one as well. I really never warmed up to that nail file, and either a smaller blade or a reamer would be preferable. Did find one on fleaBay for $199.00.

You know how I got interested in ALox saks?
In December 2012, my wife was in a store that sold makeup while me and my son were looking at flea markets at knives. She comes back and says that the store that sells makeup has a bunch of swiss army knives. They had several alox, which were new to me. I bought a new in box 2005 Soldier, that came as a set with a book for like $40 . They had another box set and I kick myself for not buying both..............but instead of buying both soldiers, I bought an Alox Cadet II, new in box in 2012. I was looking at it the other day and the price tag was $28. I'm guessing it is a 2005 like the soldier was and it has the victorinox Switzerland tang rather than the Swiss Made.
I'm guessing these things sat on the shelf for 7 years since all they sold was makeup, they just happened to have some travel bags and such with the Swiss army knives in a corner in the back.
