Source for W2?

I've been looking all over for W2 stock. I'm told the stuff Diehl carries is awful.

I sent email to Aldo, but he's apparently traveling, and Cathy said they're having some rolled, but there's none currently available, and Don Hanson is apparently out too.

I have access to a power hammer, so round bar is fine.

Any leads?

Thanks!

Robert

Thanks Chuck.

They're selling .28" x 2" x 24" for $79.99 That works out to $21/lb!
I can buy S30V from Aldo for that price.

I found an old post where someone mentioned that Tremblay Tool Steels carries W2 -- has anyone ordered from them?

Last I heard, Aldo expects his W2 to be available sometime in December. Based on past events, I'd assume that means sometime between December and Spring.

Tremblay at one time had some various sizes of round bar, I believe they are out, but it may be worth a check.

Tremblay is where I bought 1,000# of W2 somewhere around 2006 (I think)... When I called about buying some not too long after that, they told me another knifemaker "A guy named Don Hanson, do you know him?" bought all the rest of the smaller stock. ;) LOL :D

They still had thousands of pounds of huge stuff... like 6" round. You might call and ask anyway though!!! :)

I think knifekits sale of W2 must be a joke

What size do you need, I can sell forged bar from Aldo's new stuff. Normally its right around 1.25"x.31"x55". I think I have enough for 5 more bars but I want to keep 1.

Aldo does have some 2.75"x12' round bar but unless you have a big power hammer I don't suggest trying it.

Thanks Dan! Just sent you an email.

I still haven't heard back from Aldo about the W2 -- is he traveling this week?

Aldo is always traveling and when hes not he is working 10+ hours a day in his shop. He still has 4 bars of 2-7/8"x12' round bar but due to the size its a pain for him to drag it out to cut it with how busy he is.
