There was a vendor at the SF Knife Show who does nothing but "exotic leather". I paid $35 for a neat chunk of real rayskin, black dye, excellent tanning job about a foot long by 6" wide. Not a lot, but plenty for several small upcoming projects including a Sifu horizonal sheath I'm designing.

He also had rayskin in "rawhide" form, *BULLFROG* leather (uses whole froggy, size of dinnerplate, astoundingly thick leather), alligator, etc. I'd think there'd be wide interest around here?

Anyways, his contact info is:

The first thing that popped into my head when I read this post was that episode of the Simpsons where Mr. Burns steals all of Santa's Little Helper's uppies so he can make a coat from puppy hides. There's this cool musical number where Burns displays his collection of clothing made from animal hides of all types! Seemed fitting! Maybe I watch too much TV...

John has nice stuff a bit pricey though. I have a supply of black, tanned Stingray skins,
I sell them for $75 each. Very good quality.
