ML Knives makes a cool Nessmuk. If you're going to go BRKT, I'd go Wolf River. Its got a more appropriate blade thickness, and IMO is more Muckish.

For an authentic Nessmuk on the cheap, make your own from an Old Hickory knife. Its not hard, and you get an excellent knife in 1095 steel. I've done a bunch, and Oupa does a GREAT tutorial on the process. Very few tools required.

Scott Gossman does a good one too!

I guess you can baton with any thickness if you do it right.

But remember that Nessmuk's knife wasn't really intended as a do all survival knife at least from what is inferred in the book.

He had his little pocket hatchet for wood chopping, the "thin bladed knife" and then the folding knife, so he was apparently more into specialization.

PS While we are talking about people making custom Nessmuks, and ones that can be batoned with, if you go to page 3 of This thread there are some pics of batoning with a custom nessmuk:thumbup:

HD, you have to logged on for that thread. I will say this, last year my hunting buddy used a Nessmuk I made for him to field dress and skin a whitetail. From a hunting knife perspective, the Nessmuk shines.

Whoops! I forgot Scott!!!

I copied the batoning post into another thread you don't have to be signed into to view. See if thisworks

There was also a relatively inexpensive Nessmuck style knife being offered by Parkers KCS a couple months ago. It may have been a Western. I'll see if I can't dig up the ad.
