I'm more interested in making handles for pre-made blades as opposed to making the knife from scratch. I know Fallkniven sells blades by themselves. Aside from them, are the best sources for pre-made blades ready for handles? I'm looking for high quality steel.

K&G (knife and gun finishing supplies )has a good selection as does TKS..(texas knifemaker supplies)..good luck..

i know morablades can be found in some places (and helle from norway, and probably a few more), i have 5 ss blades that looks like kj erikssons (no stamps) i think they cost (or used to, they are at least 10 years old) around 1-2$/€ each. however they are not as "exotic" as other blades but will make perfectly good users imo, maybe regnar has some?

WW,
Check on ebay-There are always hundreds. I buy damascus stock from there and if you type in "damascus billet" in the search you will also find many finished damascus blanks there that are significantly cheaper than TKS, or Jantz supply. It's a good way to start but you won't do it for long so don't order more than a few.

That is a great point regarding Ebay. I just bought some Damascus stock last week and am very happy with it.

www.brisa.fi

This is a good resource for fancy (and plain) Scandinavian blades and other materials.

I have bought reindeer and moose antler and fancy birch for handles from there.

I make them. Mine need to be finished so they are not handle ready, but finishin g ready. They are ground to 220. then heat treated.

I use ATS34 and D2 primarily. All the air hardening blades are cryo'd.

I can't compete with Pakistanis or Chinese wholesalers, but they are made by me, here in the USA, and are a good value. Actuaslly, I ship them all over the world, not just locally. On my website go to supplies, then click "View/Order knife blanks..."

www.knifemaking.com Jantz Supply has over 250 pre-shaped blades to choose from. check out the new VG10 Kitchen blades and folder kit.
You can download the catalog from the homepage.

I got a Helle blade from www.ragweedforge.com , got a piece of stabilized maple burl and Dan Gray was nice enough to put it all together for me. Stabilized wood is very practical and there are many woods to choose from.
