Can anyone tell me where to find o-1 or 5160 in either
5/16 or 3/8 x 2 1/2 x 18 in.?

I haven't found it, ever, but a couple of years ago I got the bright idea of building a super bowie out of 1/2 inch stock. I wanted 5160 but flat couldn't find it. I called Pacific Steel ( I get a lot of my steel from them) They didn't have it either but they did have what they called "Plow Steel" I don't remember the makeup of it but it was very close to 5160. I bought some 1/2 X 2 and made a pretty respectable knife. It worked like 5160 and heat treat was just as good. Might want to give them a call.

You might go to your local junk yard, and look for leaf springs off of late model cars and trucks, some say about all leaf springs made from the late 60s and older were from 5160. I know that some leafs are 3/8" thick, I had some.

Good Luck

Joe Backus is the best guy to help you, but he is hard to get a hold of as he is outside sales. Dave can also help.

I just want to thank Bill again for the outstanding help he has offered so far.

THANKS
