Some local makers. A nice warmup to our annual knife show end of the month.

My late contribution.

Thank you for sharing this. I really enjoy seeing knife cultures from other countries.

Thanks again,
John

Are USA production knives common in Africa? I would think SAK's are common all over the world, but do you see things such as Benchmade, Bark River, or Spyderco knives?

Thanks,
John

Marthinus,

Thank you for the kind words. Production knives are common yes, especially Kershaw, Cold Steel and CRKT and Spyderco is considered high quality production with Benchmade. Mainly the $50-$100 price bracket is seen a lot in peoples pockets when they are serious about a better quality knife. This price bracket is considered very expensive by a lot of people...reason being...above $60 is when our import tax etc start kicking in. At the end you pay R2400 for a Syderco Military (with import tax, customs etc) and to give some idea.....a Sebenza costs around R2700 in the states (at current exchange rate). A Sebenza at local prices run about twice that amount.

It is a pleasure, but the big show is coming :)

When do these run? I would love to go

Our main Knife Makers Guild Show is at the end of this month on the 31ste August and the 1ste September. This show had a lot of up and coming makers with some members from the guild, so it was good to see some of the unknown people that are starting to make a name for themselves.

Thanks for sharing. I like the news design of Thorburn's knives.

Me to! I wanted to cry because I could not afford it....but hopefully one day.
