South American Axe Find

This followed me home over the weekend. Picture shows how it was found.

Handle looks original. At some point someone cut a kerf in the top and tried a wedge. When that didn't work, they used 2 lag bolts with washers to hold the head on.

I had a pick axe handle that someone had cut off short. It also had a slight bend along the length. A few hours with a drawknife, spokeshave, and card scraper and I ended up with this. Head weights 3.6 lbs. Haven't started to clean it up or put an edge on it.

I'm trying to find out who made this. I can read some of the markings. "A" Star symbol "1" and No. 752. I can also make out ??YERSB?RG

BTW... another $3 find.
 
Wyersberg was the German company that opened the El Salvadoran plant that later became Imacasa.
