I'm moving to South Carolina this fall and I'm curious if there is anything I need to know about knife laws there.

Anything I should know that is unusual?

Roj,

I just moved to SC from Nevada. I haven't yet checked out the knife laws but he gun laws are a bit more onerous than you'd think. If you have a CCW in Texas and you want one in SC, you'll have to wait a year before you can apply.

You may be able to get some leads by going to the SC Grass Roots site. While they are primarily for handguns, I've found the gun and knife people stick pretty close together.

I got this info from the SC Grass Roots organization:

"See Section 16-23-405 of the SC Code of Laws. A knife with a blade over two inches long is considered a weapon. Section 16-23-460 makes it illegal to carry a concealed weapon."

I would advise you to search the SC Laws to get the precise wording of these two statutes.

Funny thing about these laws is in NV I had a CCW that allowed me to carry my .45 ACP 1911 concealed but wouldn't allow me to carry a knife concealed if I wanted to do that instead of the handgun.

Nothing against SC - but why leave 'The Promised Land'?

Well I was born in North Carolina and lived most of my life in NC or SC.

Its too darn hot in Dallas and there aren't any trees. Also there aren't any mountains to backpack and hike on. I like Texas for the most part. Its the climate I'm sick of.
