South Carolina

Sure, all state laws in South Carolina are published online by the legislature, free. Laws related to knives are covered under Title 16, Chapter 23: http://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t16c023.php

Currently, SC has no laws prohibiting the carry of any knives with the exception of on school property or during the commission of a violent crime. That's it. The state does not have preemption yet, so it is possible for a local county or city to have tighter restrictions.

I'm confused myself. It looks like SC laws state that you can't carry any knife with a blade over two inches long. Is that right?

No that's not right. You can't carry a knife with a blade over two inches long while on any elementary or secondary school property. Anywhere else is fair game. They changed the law a few years ago to be ultra knife permissive.

So as long as you're not on the actual property under direct authority of a school, you can get away with carrying something like a bowie knife, switchblade, stiletto or similar implement?

Yes exactly. The only other times knife carry is regulated in any way is if you are committing a violent crime or your local city has a law against it. And truth be told I am not aware of any cities that do that in SC.

Ah glistam, I checked with a Greenville City LEO that IS know and the new Chief has put into effect any knife with a blade longer than 3" will be confiscated and you will be arrested, fine levied, and you loose ya knife. The Fine I've heard is in the neighbrhood of $200. This is what I've been told.

Anybody have information regarding walhalla city of Oconee county? I've been looking but can't find anything relating to them.
